Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle to be lent out to MPs and policymakers for the Winter to test and publicise the real world user-friendliness of hydrogen-powered cars.
Hyundai have been instrumental in the journey of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and started their crusade back in 2000 with the Santa Fe FCEV. In 2010 Hyundai launched the ix35 at the Geneva Motor Show and were pleased to announce a 55 percent improvement in driving range and an 80 percent reduction in manufacturing costs compared to the previous generation fuel cell models. The new ix35 compact SUV is hoped to make production by 2015 so releasing these models to European Government officials will help to iron out any teething problems with plenty of time to spare. Maria da Graca Carvalho MEP, Member of the Industry Committee and host of the exhibition Joint Technology Initiatives, said: “Fuel cell vehicles, such as the ix35 FCEV, have great potential to help fight carbon dioxide emissions, reduce our dependence on hydrocarbons and contribute to economic growth. I am sure my fellow members of the European Parliament will embrace the opportunity to test the viability of hydrogen technology.”
