Testing of the hardcore Juke-R concept has begun.
With the build now complete, Nissan have taken the prototype to MIRA testing ground to check that all the car’s systems are functioning properly, before putting the 480 bhp crossover through its paces on Silverstone race circuit in the first stages of performance development. Nissan claim that initial trials have been encouraging, with the Juke-R sounding and performing very much like its GT-R cousin - and for very good reason: with the Juke-R using the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine from Nissan’s flagship, along with a modified version of the coupe’s 4WD driveline, plus its six-speed transaxle. Two examples of the Juke-R will be produced –one in right and one in left-hand drive. The interior is fitted with gauges, dials and the LCD screen from the GT-R. Although the car is road legal, it features competition-spec equipment including twin race seats, five-point harnesses and a full rollcage. Adapting the GT-R’s mechanicals for use in the Juke has posed many challenges. According to Chris Horton, Lead Engineer for collaborative motorsport specialist RML: “There are three areas of key technology that have been used in Juke-R.” Nissan sources say the car won’t be going into production, but the firm does admit that the concept will be used to test the public’s reaction to a high-performance derivative of the Juke.
