Chrysler have unveiled the new Black & Red edition of the Lancia Ypsilon at the Bologna motor show.
This new version of Lancia Ypsilon, the five-door supermini that’s sold with a Chrysler badge in the UK, is an attempt to appeal to younger, male buyers. European market cars come in Silver, Gold and platinum trim levels, which equates to S, SE and Limited trim levels in the UK. The Black and Red will sit at the same level as Gold, but trade off some comfort equipment to gain 15 inch alloy wheels, privacy glass and a higher grade 360O hi-fi. Other standard features will include manual climate control, a parking aid system dubbed ‘Magic Parking’ and ‘Blue&Me- tom Tom LIVE’ satellite navigation. However, according to Chrysler, more standard equipment will be available on UK spec cars than is available on Lancia versions in continental Europe. The new Black & Red edition is available in four body colours: two shades of red, black and a two-tone version that has a red body and black roof and bonnet. The black and red theme continues inside with colour-coded seating, carpets and door trim. The Ypsilon is a based on a lengthened version of the Fiat 500 platform – but is still very compact – measuring just 3.84 metres in length. Despite this, Chrysler claims the use of “slim seat technology” means the Ypsilon can accommodate up to 5 passengers. Standard safety kit includes Anti lock brakes, electronic stability control and 6 airbags. The Ypsilon Black & Red will be available with the 69bhp, 1.2-litre Fire and turbodiesel 95bhp 1.3-litre MultiJet II engines. Now on sale in Europe, it will come to the UK as a Chrysler later this year, although specifications haven’t yet been confirmed.
