It`s not every day you get to witness a Lotus Evora taking on a Ferrari F40 from the inside of the cabin at 140 mph but David Rosckowff had a bird`s eye view at the Italian super car weekend at the Daytona International Speedway.
The purpose built home of Nascar in Florida hosts a number of different circuits including the asphalt tri oval which has a 2.5 mile loop ideal for high speed chases. With special guests like Lamborgini`s long standing ex-test driver Valentino Balboni present (What a motor his name sake Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni is), it was clear this event was going to be special. The row of Ferrari F40s, 360s, Aston Martin DBS models and such like seemed to be groaning for the track. It was refreshing to see that their owners allowed them the freedom to grace the circuit in their `natural state;` there was no precious play, no paying lip service to the cause, just flat-out racing. Not only were the Italian Supercars proving their true worth but the Greyhound that we were chasing them in (AKA the Lotus Evora that was giving passenger rides) provided an unforgetable experience. The driver was single-focussed, fearless, dogmatic - like it was bred to chase to the fall. Defeat has never been so exhilarating and I can`t wait for next year when a new elite of Supercars should be staged for the chase! Photo credit also to James Dingell.
