We know that the Lamborghini Estoque four door saloon concept is a fully operational prototype but photos of an apparently leaked Lamborghini SUV have given rise to speculation that this may launch first. The Italian press have run a story on a new Lamborghini 4X4 which they say will be unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show. According to the report by Quattroruote magazine, the new model will be a modern take on Lamborghini`s 1980s LM002 SUV and will use the Porsche Cayenne`s underpinnings.
With Porsche now owning a majority stake in VW and therefore calling a lot of the shots with Lamborghini, it stands to reason that they may want to see their Cayenne with an Aventator body design. Maserati clearly think SUVs are still a safe bet in today`s market place, BMW, Audi and Mercedes seem to be pumping them out quicker than we can count. Ferrari have also threatened to take on the Porsche Cayenne with their F151 SUV concept in recent years and Aston Martin revealed their Aston Martin Lagonda luxury off-roader concept just last year. While the Lamborghini SUV story is still hot air then, the real bull may be hiding behind the scenes. Apparently it will have plenty of beef to warm its nostrils with as the Gallardo will be sharing its V10 block albeit a detuned version. Looking to the future, a hybrid is fairly likely as emissions laws tighten. But what of the beautiful Estoque saloon, is Lamborghini still unconvinced it will find enough homes for it? Timing is crucial of course and Lamborghini no doubt will want to keep stoking that fire so we don`t forget about it but we suspect the company also doesn`t want to make any promises it can`t keep.
