The Nurburgring though is a one-lap testimony of excellence for the cars and drivers that dare to put themselves against the clock in its `green hell.` |

Albert Park saw an exciting support race line-up last weekend for the Australian GP with the V8 Supercars among the most anticipated. The contenders hadn`t even reached the end of lap one when current V8 champion Jamie Whincup spun and was hit in the side by Karl Reindler`s Holden. David Wall, Taz Douglas and Russell Ingall, also driving Holden`s, were next to join the pile-up before there was a fuel leak and the race was red-flagged. All climbed out in heroic fashion, however. |

The Japanese tuning firm Office-K organised a meet for owners of modified Phantoms last weekend at Tokyo’s Dubai Street. It must have been quite a treat for passing shoppers to see examples like the WALD Black Bison Editions and Mansory`s extended wheel base offering. The pink wrap also seen here won`t be everyone`s idea of good taste but if it was advertising candy floss or ice-cream we`d get it (turns out it is promoting a university - is that for Playboy bunnies then)?

Witnesses of the Senna Era of Formula One will remember the many changes race cars went through in the 1980s; improved airflow, the appearance of side skirts, turbo-charging and longer lasting tyres. Safety of course was still pretty hairy by todays standards but the cars and drivers were undoubtably hugely exciting to watch. One of Ayrton Senna`s most memorable performances was in a Toleman TG184-2 Formula One car which will be up for grabs at Silverstone Auctions on 16th May. |
