BOND AND BEAUTIFULBest known for its star appearances in James Bond films, the Aston Martin DB5 is the 60’s bombshell which epitomises British design at its very best. When the DB5 was brought in to production, Aston Martin was highly praised for its engineering feats. It was very rare for a 1960’s car to top speeds of 141mph and dart to 60mph from standstill in 8.1 seconds. These stats can still size up to many of today’s mid-range sports cars.
Despite only being in production for 2 years; between 1964 and 1966, the DB5 will never be forgotten by motoring enthusiasts. The James Bond producers also made sure this beautiful piece of machinery will always be the star of the silver screen. The DB5’s first appearance was in Goldfinger in 1964, then again in Thunderball in 1965. In 1995 it captured our hearts once more in Goldeneye before this classic stunt car was stolen from Boca Raton airport hanger in 1997.
So maybe there is a real-life Bond who has it now has been lying pretty low since their daringly extravagant steal. It’s unlikely that this hot-shot crook will ever take the DB5 to a garage for an M.o.T through fear of the staff recognising its conspicuous machine guns, oil slick sprayer, radar and ejection seat. There have been no reported sightings of it being seen on the road either. Then again, police are unlikely to be able to trace it speeding past cameras as it has those nifty rotating number plates that we all wish we had! But despite the theft, the DB5 legend is never over, there are still a few production models around and the 2005 baby Aston is set to re-kindle the magic for future generations.
